I make this piece from soft cowhide. The ankle strap is 3 cm wide, made of two layers of cowhide, the outer layer is thicker, strong leather and the inside is soft but also strong. The toe-to-ankle strap is a layer of thick leather, making it easier to thread into the D-rings. You can use this strap to pinch the foot, but you can unlace it if you aren't using it. The buckles can be locked (The padlocks are not included in the product). I put 5 D-rings on each sock: three for the ankle, one for the heel, one for the toes; this provides countless knitting opportunities.
